September 2018 Update
Davies Kalange: August was an incredible month for Davies! After being rejected in his initial student visa interview at the US Embassy in Lukasa on August 8, by God’s grace he was able to get a second appointment just 7 days later, and on August 15 was granted his student visa. Just two days later he and his sponsor were leaving on their 30 hour flight from Lukasa to Johannesburg to Atlanta, and they arrived at LAX Saturday morning, August 18, just in time for the first welcoming event at The Master’s University that afternoon. Davies spent his first night in America in his dorm room at TMU and is off to a great start. God answers prayer, and His timing is perfect. What a thrill it was to see him introduced to our church body on Anniversary Sunday.
Next steps: We are going out to our contacts in the international orphan world with the goal of identifying 3-5 solid candidates from which we plan to select two finalists to move forward through the application process at TMU. Our objective is to have next year’s (Fall 2019) student admitted and student visa in hand by March 31, 2019.
Church Planter Candidates: Our goal continues to be to identify our first planter before year-end. We are expanding our network of contacts, and have engaged Slingshot (a church position search organization) in our search effort. Keep praying for God to send us just the right man.
We reviewed our three lesson Small Group curriculum, THE ACT OF GRACE-Biblical Giving, with Small Group Leaders on Vision Saturday and requested that each group go through the curriculum in either Q4 ’18 or Q1 ’19. We are conferring with INJOY monthly, and working to develop messaging and the message plan, ahead of planned January 2019 rollout of TEN to the Crossroads body. We are also developing the 2019 TEN Budget.
As we have said earlier, reaching our TEN goals will depend on two things- first and foremost, God’s plan and provision, and second, the stewardship and generosity of God’s people.
Keep praying for the TEN Ministry. Pray that God will lead us to the student He has planned for us for next year, and that He will raise up out first church planter soon.
